A bit like church but not always – St Benet’s Chaplaincy

St Benet’s is a bit like church, a bit like a coffee lounge, a lot like a home

St Benet’s Chaplaincy is definitely a place where you can feel what an international community is all about!

There are three main areas in St Benet’s:

  • The Chapel is a beautiful, peaceful space and is open for you to use at all times.
  • The Lounge is a wonderful place to relax, play games, chat, make yourself drinks, cereals and toast, even work. We refurbished over the summer and it now feels wonderfully homely.
  • The Quiet Room, a former library, with desks to work at or play board games on. The Quiet Room is also available to book out as a meeting room.
They also have a regular pattern of daily prayer at St Benet’s, to which anyone is welcome. The services are simple and unscary, everything is written down on the service sheet.
Morning Prayer
  8.15am – 8.30am every weekday morning

in the Chapel, you are welcome to stay on for breakfast
Midday Prayer    1.00pm – 1.15pm every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Evening Prayer   5.15pm – 5.30pm every weekday
There is a Roman Catholic Mass
1pm every Tuesday in the Chapel.
The Lounge is a wonderful place to be

The Lounge is open from
9am to 5pm Monday to Friday
.
Drinks are available all day, free of charge – coffee, tea,
hot chocolate or water. Cereals and toast are always on tap.

A variety of groups, QMUL and QMSU societies use the Chaplaincy rooms for both occasional and regular meetings and events. The notice board in the Lounge will always have details of up-coming events.

Three of the things they do on a regular weekly basis are:

Monday 1.30pm to 2pm Mindfulness Meditation. A half hour of guided reflection. Non-religious. No charge. No booking necessary.

Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm is a Board Game Afternoon. They have lots of classic board games plus some new ones to try.  Any student can just turn up and play!

Friday afternoons are food-orientated. It may be a Free Scone Friday, bread making classes or a Bake Off Competition. Basically, Friday afternoon is a good time to go to St Benet’s Chaplaincy and enjoy some free food.
